About the family:
Charles Wehnau came to
America from Germany before his wife Dorothea Maria to establish a
home. Dorothea Maria was born in Denmark. John Wehnau was born in
Germany before his mother Maria as she was called came to America.
Charles was in the army in Germany. Charles was considered to be very
clever. He was a carpenter by trade and could do just about
everything. He was very handy. He also had a farm and especially
raised onions. All the children had to help hoe the weeds in the
onions. Maria came to America with her brother John (Hans) when he was
18 which was the age to go into the German army. Because he left
before he served his time in the army, he couldn't return to Germany.
I don't know what the reason was, but he came as Maria's husband. |
